Dream Big! A Postwar Success Story: The Nisei Soldiers of WWII DVD

Regular price $ 25.00

Produced by JN Productions, Inc. this one-hour documentary highlights American servicemen of Japanese descent and their tremendous impact on Hawaii’s post-war social structure, economy and politics. The wartime accomplishments of the 100th Battalion, 442nd Regimental Combat Team, and MIS Military Intelligence Service will tell the story of their contribution to Hawaii’s growth and success after WWII.

Before the war many Americans of Japanese Ancestry (AJA) in the islands were raised on the sugar plantations that dominated Hawaii’s economy. They knew firsthand the inequities that came along with plantation life.

When the war ended in 1945, these Nisei (2nd generation) soldiers were given a hero’s welcome when they returned home. After going through the horrors of war, many of the veterans took advantage of the GI Bill of Rights and graduated from college or trade school to become enterprising community leaders, businessmen, educators, judges, lawyers and politicians at the national, state and local levels. Motivated, inspired, and dreaming big, they helped to make Hawaii a better place for their families.
